Ciro Basile Fasolo

I enrolled at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Pisa in 1970 and graduated on 05/04/1977 in Medicine and Surgery with the highest grades and honours, proposing a thesis on ‘Male Contraception’.
From 27/06/1977 to 15/01/1978 I frequented the Course in Clinical Sexology organised and directed by Professors G. Abraham and W. Pasini. From December 1977 to June 1988 I carried out welfare activity, teaching and research in the Centre of Andrology in Clinical Medicine I, University of Pisa, under the direction of Prof. G. F. Menchini Fabris. I concentrated my attention on the study of problems inherent to sexuality, considering both aspects of fertility and, more in general, problems associated with sexual behaviour. On 14/07/1980 I obtained a Diploma of Specialisation in Andrology at the University of Pisa, in 1982 a Diploma (Perfezionamento) in Sexological Medicine at the University of Bari and a Diploma in Bioethics at Catholic University of Rome in 2009. Since 01/07/1989 I have been employed at the General Medical Clinic I of the University of Pisa as Researcher in the Unit of Endocrine Physiopathology and since 01/11/1991 in the Unit of Internal Medicine. From December 1997, I belong to Dept. of Psychiatry, Peurobiology, Pharmacology and Biotechnologies. I have dedicated particular attention to ethical and spiritual aspects in the caregiver / patient relationship, and to welfare activity with the Outpatients’ Unit of Sexology, both in the fields of diagnosis and therapy of sexual dysfunctions and of the paraphilias (sexual deviances) and sexual identity disorders (transexualism). My activity involves teaching of Sexology and Communication in Medicine, research in the sector of sexual disorders (male and female sexual dysfunctions, sexual deviances and identity disorders), Interpersonal Communication as applied to medicine, to the doctor-patient relationship and more generally to health-care workers, and techniques of communication in public (Public Speaking). Since 1998, when I created for the Italian Society of Andrology (SIA) the Week for Andrological Prevention (Settimana della Prevenzione Andrologica), I manage this project, nowadays at the 10th edition , that allowed to the whole male population to access to a free andrological examination, and, in the mean time, to collect over the years an impressive database about sexual behaviours and pathologies of Italian males.
